Installation instructions for terraholz picket fences:
What is needed :
Materials:
- picket fence
- Stakes (about 3-4 pieces per 5m roll of paling)
- gate
- possibly posts with special conditions (see notes at the bottom)
Basic tools:
- spade
- cordless screwdriver
- Tongs
Additional tools:
- auger
- pile driver or sledgehammer
- spirit level
- String to determine exact fence path
Excipients:
- Screws (at least 60mm)
- either wire connector or flexible wire
Persons:
Can be easily set up by two people, but theoretically it can also be done alone.
Procedure :
1. Visualize the fence path and lay it out.
Roll out the paling rolls at the points where the fence is to be erected later.
Also add the required stakes.
The most accurate result is achieved by "drawing out" the desired fence path very precisely with string and stakes.
2. Dig holes at the stake positions.
The depth should be at least one third of the pile length. To do this, use a shovel or an auger with a slightly smaller diameter than that of the post.
3. Placing the stakes in the excavated holes.
If you used a shovel: backfill the hole around the post. Do this slowly. First some earth, then compact it well with the end of a thick stick, then some earth again, etc. If necessary, hit the post with a hammer or post driver (if using a metal hammer, it is better to put a board between them so as not to damage the post ).
If you used an auger: Drive the stake into the drilled hole with the stake driver or hammer. If necessary, reconsolidate the soil.
4. Set up and fix the fence.
Lift up a section of fence and lean it against the posts. Make sure that the posts are inside the perimeter and that the sharpened pickets are pointing up if your picket fence has this feature.
Now, using the cordless screwdriver, screw the first stake to the post with 2-5 screws, depending on the height of the fence. When doing this, make sure that you raise the pole a little (about 5 cm) so that the fence is not in direct contact with the ground. Now go to the next post and repeat the procedure. This time, however, it is advisable not only to lift the fence, but also to stretch it a little. To do this, use a spade by sticking the shovel through the picket fence and past the post at the start of the post. Now using the spade like a lever by pushing the handle of the shovel forward allows you to build tension before driving the next bolts.
If you've done this well, the fence should now "hover" parallel to the ground a few inches above it and be taut.
5. Connecting two rolls of picket fence.
When you have successfully assembled a fence segment, lean the following fence piece against the next posts and connect the two individual fence pieces into one. Make sure that the ends of the fence and the excess wire are close together (roughly the distance between the fence posts).
Now simply tie the end stakes with wire at 2-6 points using pliers, or connect the protruding wires with wire connection clamps.
(6.) Install gate gate.
The gate is installed in the middle of two posts. When the posts are spaced the width of the gate, mount the hinges on the gate and posts and hang the gate.
Hints:
- Don't hit all the posts at once. Rather do it fence piece by fence piece.
- In order to make the construction more stable, it is advisable to hammer in the corner posts of the boundary and goal posts at least deeper. It is better to concrete them in or support them. These posts can also be slightly thicker in diameter than the other posts.
